Andrew Oken, M.D.

Dr. Oken received his bachelor of science in chemistry and bachelor of arts minor in literature from the University of Oregon–Robert D. Clark Honors College, Phi Beta Kappa. He then headed to Oregon Health & Science University, where he received his doctor of medicine. Dr. Oken completed his internship at Providence Portland Medical Center, and his residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. While at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Oken was a faculty member and completed a fellowship in vascular and cardiothoracic anesthesia, and critical care medicine.

Dr. Oken began his anesthesia practice with Anesthesia Service of Eugene at Sacred Heart Regional Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon. He then headed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was Director of the Division of Thoracic Anesthesiology. Most recently, Dr. Oken practiced with the VA Medical Center here in Portland as Assistant Chief of Service, Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, as well as with Oregon Health & Science University as an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Oken has been very active on dozens of committees and boards, and has participated in mission work through HBS Foundation in Limbe, Haiti; World Medical Mission in Nairobi, Kenya; and Helps International in Guatemala.
